An Aspen Road resident reported to police over the weekend that she had received a letter from the Macy’s department store, notifying her that approximately $1,200 worth of merchandise from the store had been purchased with a credit card in her name earlier this month, which she had not authorized.
The Scarsdale resident received a second notification from the security department of Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, notifying her that an unknown party had charged nearly $8,000 in merchandise at an undisclosed date, even though the resident said she had closed her account with the store nearly a decade ago.
Police said that in both instances, “the unknown party had obtained the (victim’s) name, date of birth, address and Social Security information.”
There was a third instance of identity theft to the same village resident, after she received a letter from Comenity Financial Bank that stated an application was received in her name for a Victoria’s Secret credit card she hadn’t applied for. No purchases were made on that account, as the store requires her to sign for the card in person.
